He was born in Kronstadt, Siebenbürgen. He did his university studies in Goettingen, Vienna, Erlangen. When he returned back home in 1783, he worked as tenens of the chief physician in Kronstadt. In 1786, he was named the head physician of the "Three Chairs" district. He was a famous and a prolific scientific writer.
His scientific work was recongnized by the Academy of Vienna.This Academy elected him as a member, named 'Antiphanes'.
During his short life, he wrote seven scientific papers. Two of them have ophthalmic subject:
1. Dissertatio de affectibus ocularum in genere. Halle.1777
2. De ophtalmia Nagyszambat, 1777.
In all his papers, he underlined the importance of improving the quality of medical care and the fight against the imposture in medicine.
The paper named " De ophthalmia", written in latin language, presents the clinical aspects of the ocular inflammations, according to the medical con-ceptions of the time.
This is a valuable work coming from a period when ophthalology was not a distinct medical speciality.
