Ophthalmo-surgical approaches to the orbit

W. Lieb

Orbital surgery is an often neglected part of ophthalmique surgery.

Therefore has been widely overtaken by other subspecialities. In this lecture the ophthalmo-surgical approach to the orbit will be discussed with considerations of preoperative diagnosis and differential diagnostics for anterior, medial and lateral orbitotomies. Potential complications, adequate postoperative care and results of surgical management of various orbital diseases will be outlined.

In order to surgically treat the entire spectrum of orbital diseases a close interdisciplinary cooperation with other specialists is necessary. The ophthalmologist plays an essential role in the diagnosis, treatment and coordination of therapeutic measures.
