U. Weitgasser, B. Vidic

Introduction: Even if pigmented caroncular tumors are a very rare ocular affection, they represent a very interesting part of pigmented conjunctival lesions.

Methods: We report of three cases, diagnosed and treated at our hospital. Epidemiology, Embryology, Anatomy , und Histology (histological criteria favoring malignancy) of the nevi and melanoma are discussed in detail, as well as therapeutics and prognosis.

Results: Two nevi and one melanoma have been diagnosed and treated, the mean patients age was 52, two male and one fernale patient. In two cases the caroncula was resected and in one case cryoapplication was performed. There was no evidence of recidive or malign transformation. Discussion:Nevi are the most frequent caroncular lesions.. In contrast to other pigmented conjunctivallesions nevi as well as the melanoma, which is very rare, are associated with an excellent prognosis.

Therapeutics are various : Resection, Radiation, Cryoapplication, even plac.
