Combined phototherapeutic/photorefractive keratectomy (PTK/PRK) in superficial corneal degenerationG. Wellermann, G. W. K. Steinkamp, M. Baumeister, J. Bühren, M. Brieden
Introduction: Refractive results after photoablative-therapeutic treatment of superficial corneal scars and simultaneously treatment of refractive errors.
Patients and methods: Two patients with central corneal degeneration have been treated with the excimer laser Keracor 217 (Technolas/Bausch& Lomb, software PlanoScan). The preoperative spherical equivalent was 1,25 D (Patient A) and 2,00 D (Patient B). In both cases the central ablation zone was 6.0 mm with a treatment zone of 13.0 mm.
Results: Preoperative best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 0.32 (patient A) and 0.4 (patient B). Four weeks postoperatively the uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) was 0.63 and 1.0 (patient A,B).
Conclusion: At the time of superficial corneal degeneration treatment using phototherapeutic keratectomy, refractive errors can be treated with PRK to optimise uncorrected visual acuity.
