Background: In this study we present first functional and morphological results after implantation of a new hydrophilic acrylate lens with sharp edge optic design (Rayner Centerflex™).
Methods: 44 Rayner Centerflex™ intraocular lenses were implanted in total so far. The mean age of the patients was 74±6.1 years. The mean lens power was 21.22±2.18 D. Evaluation of visual acuity, corneal endothelium cell count and flaremeter examinations were performed preoperatively as well as one day, two weeks, two and six month postopertivly.
Results: The preoperative visual acuity was 0.37±0.15 (range from 0.07 to 0.8), at the 1. postoperative day 0.61±0.19, 2 weeks postoperative 0.67±0.2, and 2 month postoperative 0.76±0.15. The mean endothelial cell count preoperative was 2587.93±389.88, 2 weeks postoperative 2486.54±349.88 and 2 month postoperative 2340.48±421.62. Flaremeterexamination showed preoperative 11.34±3.82 photons/ms, 1 day postoperative. 20.9±5.65 photons/ms, 2 weeks postoperative 16.56±4.93 photons/ms and 2 month postoperative 9.8±1.96 photons/ms.
Conclusion: This first results of the the new hydrophilic acrylic foldable lens show good functional and morphological values.
