Functional Optical Zone (FOZ) and Selective Corneal Aberration (SCOA) after refractive surgery

Berret R., Bende T., Jean B., Oltrup T., Ditzen K.

Universitäts-Augenklinik, Eberhard-Karls-Universität, Tübingen

Purpose: Aim of this study was to evaluate the Functional Optical Zone (FOZ) for different refractive procedures using Selective Corneal Aberration (SCOA) including the Modular Transfer Function (MTF).
Methods: Presented will be patients after myopic and hyperopic PRK/LASIK with different laser systems for different treatment zone diameters, patients post DTK, and patients with combined treatments of DTK and PRK/LASIK. Assessment of FOZ, SCOA including MTF was performed with the new Windows C-Scan Software tool based upon the individual topography.
Results: The new C-Scan software module allows for the first time a fast and objective analyzing of the FOZ using SCOA including the MTF. These information are beside the Visual Acuity important indicators for the refractive outcome
Conclusion: The new C-Scan Windows Software is a powerful tool to evaluate objectively the corneal surface after refractive surgery. This allows to evaluate and optimize laser algorithms specially with regard to customized ablation.
