Iridectomy or Iridotomy in phacic posterior Lens Implantation

Purpose: To explain the different methods to perform a free passage
between the anterior and posterior chamber after ICL implantation.
Methods: To create a shortcut between the anterior and posterior
chamber some methods have been proposed: Surgical iridectomy through the
clear cornea, YAGlaser iridotomy several days before the implantation,
iridectomy by vitrectomy device and an iridotomy through the clear cornea
performed by Weckers scissors are demonstrated.
Results: The performance and side effects of each of the procedures
are registered. It seems that two iridotomies through the clear cornea
are sufficient to prevent an angle closure glaucoma attack although the
iridotomy is tiny.
Conclusion: Iridotomies as are demonstrated in this video assure
a free passage of aqueous humor with minimal side effects and are recommended
by the author. No patient with surgical iridotomies suffered an acute
glaucoma attack.
