Department of Ophthalmology, Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg, INF 400, D-69120 Heidelberg, Germany, Dir.: Prof. Dr. H.E. Völcker

Purpose: To evaluate and compare anterior chamber depth (ACD) measurement by IOL-Master™ (Zeiss, Germany) and Orbscan II™ (Orbtec, Inc.,USA).
Methods: In this prospective study we measured ACD of 159 eyes of 155 using the Zeiss IOL-Master and Orbscan II.
Results: Average patient age was 53.2±19.5 (range 18 to 86) years. Mean ACD, measured by the Zeiss IOL-Master was 3.34±0.43mm (range 2.01 to 4.24mm). Mean ACD measured by Orbscan II was 3.37±0.49mm (range 2.01 to 5.92mm). Mean total axial length was 23.84±2.68mm (range 20.35 to 31.41mm). The correlation of ACD between both methods was R=0.67 (p<1.0). The correlation of ACD and total axial length was 0.65. There was only a weak correlation between axial length and ACD measures of both devices. There was no correlation between the amount of deviation of both systems and axial length.
Conclusion: Zeiss IOL-Master and Orbscan II are equally efficient and reliable for measurement.
