| Current news in myopia research Goldschmidt E. Eyeclinic, Hilleroed Sygehus, Hilleroed, Denmark The multiplicity of theories regarding the etiology of myopia has led
to numerous and partly contradictory methods of therapy. In Europe the
role of genetic factors has been weighted stronger than environment, while
in Asia emphasis has been put on environmental factors, particularly close
work. Bifocal spectacle lenses reduce the accommodative demand, but studies
on the effect of bifocal lenses have shown widely varying results. Progressive
lenses may be more promising. There seems to be no simple way of controlling
the progression of myopia, but recent data indicate that less demanding
academic programs during early schooling reduces the development and progression
of myopia. |
