New instrumentation and technique for revision lasik surgery

Gulani A. C.

Laser Refractive and Corneo-Plastic Surgery, Department of Ophthalmology, University of Florida, Jacksonville, Florida, USA

Purpose: Five new instruments have been designed by the author for revision Lasik surgery by re-lifting the corneal flap.
Methods: A new three-step approach for previous corneal flap lift was undertaken in patients with residual ammetropia as well as to address interface complications following lasik surgery.
Results: This new instrumentation and technique allowed for consistent and predictable flap lift in the follow up range of 3 to 12 months post Lasik, thus avoiding the intimidating microkeratome and its inherent complications.
Conclusion: The corneal flap can be easily re-lifted upto 1 year post Lasik to enhance (By added stromal ablation) or address interface complications without recutting with the microkeratome. This is an encouraging step towards fine tuning Laser refractive surgery in our quest for emmetropia.
