Background: The aim of this study is to demonstrate, results and the experiences we achieved using laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) in the first operation period that were done in Hungary during the past two years.
Methods: The procedure was done by (Chiron) Hansatome and Keratom II ArF (Schwind) excimer laser. In this study 781 eyes of 445 myopic patients were treated. We controlled the best corrected visual acuity pre- and postoperativly,
Results: The average of all the patients for preoperative best corrected visual acuitiy were 0,88 (±0,08), and the average of postoperative non corrected visual acuitiy were after 1 day 0,75 (±0,13), after 1 week 0,75 (±0,14), after 1 month 0,81 (±0,06), after 3 months 0,80 (±0,13), after 6 months 0,81 (±0,13), after 12 months 0,81 (±0,14), and after 24 months 0,82 (±0,14). In 3 cases incomplete lamellae were created. In 4 cases the patients had to be reoperated because of undercorrection. In 2 cases we have found partial djslocation of the lamella.
Conclusions: Our two-year experience showed that the patients were satisfied with the results of LASIK. In our experience LASIK was found to be an effective and safe procedure for correction of different stages of myopia. Our complications were not severe.
