| What do patients expect from the ophthalmologist? A representative survey Lange G. I. Augenpraxis 76297 Stutensee, Wiesenstr. 21 In order to analyse the subjective experience of patients, a survey was
carried out. The technical equipment in the clinic was compared to the
dialogue between doctor and patient and validated in three degrees through
the patient. For the analysis of the 740 valid answers, participants were
subdivided into groups according to age (18-38 years, 39-59 years and
over 60 years of age) within which the patients` expectations were evaluated.
The participants`sex was also taken into account. The results demonstrate
the important role of the conversation with the ophthalmologist for patients
of all ages as an indicator of the doctor`s personal interest and involvment:
40% of all participants value the doctorpatient dialogue higher than the
technical equipment in the clinic (two thirds of these are between 18
and 59 years old ); further 58% attach the same importance to the dialogue
and the equipment and finally, 2% prefer the equipment in the ophthalmologic
clinic. The knowledge of these expectations has a significant impact,
as only their consideration will result in a high level of satisfaction
among patients. It is therefore important to pay special attention to
aspects which signal the doctor`s personal involvement; especially in
our highly technological speciality. |
