Preliminary results of the new accommodating lens AT-45 from C&C Vision

Neuhann T. H., Okrafka K. P.

Augenklinik am Marienplatz, München

Purpose: To evaluate the possibility of accommodation with a new design of a silicon intraocular lens.
Method: 38 eyes of 19 patients were implanted with the new flexible IOL model AT-45. All patients had besides the cataract no other ocular pathology. After uneventful phacoemulsification through a limbal temporal incision, 33 IOL were injected through a 3mm incision while 5 IOLs were implanted with the forceps through a 3.5mm incision. After surgery patients received beside the topical steroids 1% topical Atropine.
Results: All patients had with BCVA 20/40 or better. Nearvision is also in all patients above J3 UCVA for distance was due to the new method an uncertain A-constant between 20/50 and 20/20, while uncorrected Nearvision was not under J4. All implants centered perfectly, sideeffects like halos, glare or discoloration of the material were not observed.
Conclusion: The result of our patientgroup shows that a certain intended movement of the optical part happens, when using Nearvision. Nevertheless further investigation and refinement in design and surgical procedure has to be made, to enhance the desired results, which seem to be possible.
