Socet syndrome and motility improvement of artifitial eyes- six years of experiences in tallinn central hospital eye clinic

Introduction: The loss of an eye causes medical and cosmetical problems. The goal of resolving thus problems is higher quality of patients life.
Materials and methods: There are many causes of enucleation- 50% of them are injurys and the other half are intraocular tumors and other terminal conditions of different eye diseases. Since from 1995 orbital implantation is available also in Estonia. Different implants and surgical tecniques are used to improve prosthesis motility.
Results: Despite of some problems with rejection of the prosthesis there was good cosmetical outcome in all cases. Conclusion: When we lost the fight to save the eyeball, it doesn't mean the battle is over. After that starts the fight for better quality of patients life.
