Intraocular Metastasis in Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma

Marquardt D., Lieb W.,
Bayerische Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, Universitäts-Augenklinik (Würzburg)

Purpose: Intraocular metastasis are extremely rare in malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH).
Method: We demonstrate a case report of a choroidal metastasis of a malignant fibrous histiocytoma.
Results: A 62-year old female patient with malignant fibrous histiocytoma 16 years after first diagnosis reported sudden loss of V. A. to 80/200 within 2 weeks. We found a parafoveolar white choroidal tumour of 9,8 X 9,3 mm diameter, that was supposed to be a metastasis of the existing malignant fibrous histiocytoma. After further diagnostics we recommended external radiotherapy.
Conclusions: In this case report we present an intraocular metastasis in malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH). Whereas most ocular metastasis come from carcinomas like mamma-CA, bronchial-CA, prostata-CA or melanomas, seldom soft tissue tumours can also cause ocular metastasis. These metastasis commonly occur in late tumour stages where therapy options are reduced.
