Improvement of Visual Acuity after Cataract Surgery and IOL Implantation

Background: Improvement of visual acuity could be achieved by reduction of spheric equivalent (coherence-interferometry), by reduction of astigmatism (improvement of surgery technique) and even now by correction of spheric aberation (Zernicke 4.0).
Method: Within the scope of the lecture all three methods are carried out and explained, own modulations in particular. Especially the subtractive wavefront-analysis allows to determine the lens aberration by preoperatively measured total wavefront analysis and topographical corneal-analysis.
Results: A significant increase of visual acuitiy after IOL-implantation may be reached by individualized coherence-interferometry, by astigmatism-reducing surgery-techniques and by Zernicke 4.0 correction of spheric aberation of intraocular lenses.
Conclusions: All three methods might be useful for a significant improvement of visual acuity after cataract surgery and IOL implantation.
