The Evaluation of the Efficacy of Lasertherapy and Vitreoretinal Surgery in Maintenance of useful Vision in Diabetic Patients Treated with Renal Dialysis

The aim of the research is to estimate the frequency of the occurrence of different forms of diabetic retinopathy in patients dialysed in the course of diabetes and to evaluate the efficacy of the laser photocoagulation and vitreoretinal surgery in patients enrolled to this treatment. 50 diabetic patients from renal dialysis centers in the region of Lower Silesia were examined ophthalmologically. The proliferative form of diabetic retinopathy was diagnosed in 33 (66%) patients. The stabilization of the visual acuity (Visus 0,1-0,9) was achieved by laser photocoagulation in 7 (14%) patients. After pars plana vitrectomy visual acuity improvement (Visus 0,02-0,63) was obtained in 11 (22%) patients. The vitreoretinal surgery enables in some complicated cases of diabetic retinopathy to stabilize the vision in patients dialysed in the course of diabetes.
