Remote Results of Repeated Operations for Blepharoptosis

Aim: to follow the remote cosmetic results of repeated surgery for blepharoptosis.
Patients and Methods: 28 eyes in 26 patients were repeatedly operated for blepharoptosis; 4 eyes had 1st grade ptosis, 9- 2nd grade, 11- 3rd grade and 4- 4th grade. Upper eyelid levator resection was performed in all of them. Follow-up period varied from 1 to 4 years. Eyelid excursion was 3-10 mm in 1st grade ptosis, 0-11 mm in 2nd grade, 2-8 mm in 3rd and 0-3 mm in 4th. Levator resection was 8-15 mm in 1st grade, 10-22 mm in 2nd, 10-25 mm in 3rd and 10-30 mm in 4th.
Results: In all the patients relative symmetry of the upper eyelids was achieved. Lagophthalmos was seen in 2 cases of 1st grade ptosis, 3 cases of 2nd grade, 5 cases of 3rd grade and 2 cases of 4th.
Conclusions: The results of repeated blepharoptosis operations show their longterm efficacy as well as cosmetic and social rehabilitation of the patients. We do not consider lagophthalmos to be a complication of the said surgery.
