Idiopathic Macula-hole - PPV with Indocyanin

Gamaél A., Müller C., Clemens S.,
Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität Greifswald, Klinik und Poliklinik für Augenheilkunde (Greifswald)

Introduction: The removal of the centrifugal and centripetal forces on the macula hole showed a high stability in the visual acuity with a low rate of complications. Aim of this retrospective work are the results after maximal pars plana vitrectomy with removal of the membrana limitans interna. Keypoints are the situations of the macula border, postoperativ size of the foramen and the incidence of complications like retinal detachment, secundary glaucoma and development of cataract.
Method: We analyzed retrospectively 20 eyes (20 patietns) who received in the years of 1999 and 2000 a pars plana vitrectomy with removal of the membrana limitans interna.
Results: In 10 cases the visus became better after sugery, in five cases the visual acuity stayed the same. Fortheen cases showed a smaler hole and a complete laying of the borders of the foramen. One case showed a dehiscent ege of the hole. The best visual acuity reached up to 0,8.
Discussion: After the removal of the membrana limitans interna with complet pars plana vitrectomy is a better result very likely. The advantages are the reductions of the size of the hole, the complete laying of the eges of the foramen and as a conclusion less metamorphopsiea for the patient. We have not seen any speciale complications.
