Minimal Invasive Cataract Surgery with Dodick Laser Lysis and the Acri*Smart Implantationssystem

Wehner W.,
Praxisklinik (Nürnberg)

Background: Rifined methods to remove the natural lens and to reduce the incision length may result in a considerably improved quality of cataract surgery. Small energy supply without heat development allows a less strainous removal of the natural lens. In addition, the removal of the cataractous lens as well as implantation of the pseudophakic implant are performed through an incision reduced to a length of 1.4 mm, thus decreasing the intraoperativ trauma considerably.
Method: With Dodick laser lysis in combination with specific irrigation handpeace and a newly developed implantation systhem the entire cataract operation is performed via a 1,4 mm paracenthesis. The Acri*Smart implantation system allows a less strainous and safe implantation of the arteficial lens through this 1,4 mm paracentesis. This process neither impairs the mechanical structure nor the optical quality of the lens. Furthermore, the lens can be positioned in the capsulare bag in a safe and easy way.
Results: The reduction of the incision length provides an incision that is absolutely neutral to astigmatism, a better sealing of the anterior chamber and a quicker rehabilitation of the patients` vision. Due to the decreased energy supply during cataract removal as well as the reduction of the incision size to less than half of the length previosly required the overall trauma induced by cataract surgery can be dramatically reduced.
Conclusions: After a learning curve Dodick laser lysis in combination with the Acri*Smart implantation systhem can be used in the daily operation procedure. So a new step of quality in cataract surgery can be reached.
