Capsular Tension Ring - Indications and Implantation Techniques

Since 1991 capsular tension ring have been used in cataract surgery. Primarily the capsular tension ring was used in the treatment of subluxated crystalline lenses. In the following years the indications for the capsular tension ring were extended broadly. Primarily, the capsular tension ring was used to stabilize the capsular bag in eyes with subluxated lenses or intraoperative rupture of zonular fibers. Other advantages of the capsular tension ring are now the diminution of capsular shrinkage in eyes with congenital cataract, a better positioning of the intraocular lens or in preventing the development of secondary cataract. The presented video shows typical situations of capsular tension ring implantation as well as various implantation techniques.
