Purpose: Our prospective study targeted to compare the specific immune response of individuals from Southern Brazil with active and presumably acquired ocular toxoplasmosis with that of a Swiss group of patients with presumably merely congenital disease. Method: Aqueous humour (AH) and serum were drawn in parallel from the two collectives of patients presenting with active ocular toxoplasmosis. The clinical pictures of the Brazilian (n = 27) and Swiss (n = 50) groups were consistent with ocular toxoplasmosis. The infection could not be attributed to acquired or congenital origin in the majority of cases. Data are provided as medians (interquartile range=IQR), Mann Whitney U test was applied for statistical analysis, if not mentioned differently. Results: Brazilian patients tended to be younger [33.0 (19.0) vs. 26.7 (12.6) years; p=0.065]. Total IgG in serum differed not [10.8 (2.7) vs. 11.1 (3.4) g/l (IQR); p=0.499] in contrast to AH [95 (195) vs. 20 (30) [mg/l (IQR); p=0.
