Modelling of Eye Components for Simulation of Refractive Interventions

Purpose: The vision quality of the human eye is primarily based on the refractive behaviour and the shape of different eye components. For the refractive behaviour the cornea and the lens system are responsible. Furthermore for the image generation at the retina the position and shape of bulbus are very important. That means the vision quality is determined by position, shape and the biomechanical behaviour of the eye components cornea, lens and sclera/retina. Method: For destination of the vision quality the ensemble of all eye components has to be regarded. Especially that is refraction of cornea and lens, the accommodation of lens and shape and position of retina/sclera. Additionally to the emmetropia the geometric and mesh modelling is concerned to the hyperopia and myopia, before simulation of the optical image at the retina. The lens is developed as a full parameterised geometry-mesh model, regarding the layer dependent shape with kernel. The cornea is also modelled as an n-layer tissue with the different biological layers. As well spherical as well hyperbolic parameterised models can be adapted to patient specific morphometrics. Results: The model based generation of these eye components give the possibility to adapt the model into a global eye component system, based on patient specific morphometric data.
