Abstract
Cataract after Stereotactic Irradiation of Intraocular Choroidal Melanoma Rastegar Z. N.1, Roos H.2, Stefani F.3
Purpose: Cataract is an important effect of exposure to ionizing radiation. In this study, patients with an intraocular choroidal melanoma who had been treated with a Gamma Knife were examined in the years 1998/99. In all cases, only one eye was fully or partly exposed to the radiation. A 50%-isodose with a maximum dose of 50% was applied (maximum dose on the edge of the tumor: 50 Gy). Aim of the study was to investigate whether there are statistically significant differences in the occurrence of lens opacities in the irradiated eyes relative to the non-irradiated eyes. |
