Centerflex-Intraocular Lens: a New A-Constant for Optical Coherence Biometry
Lodzik E. M., Zaki N. V., Sekundo W. Eye Hospital, University of Marburg
Purpose: The Centerflex (Rayner Ltd/UK) is a new hydrophilic intraocular lens (IOL) with improved in-the-bag centration. In contrast to other intraocular lenses the Centerflex can be delivered in 0,25 D increments. The manufacturers A-constant for ultrasound biometry (A-mode scan) is 118.0. Vyas published a personalized A-constant of 117.8 (Vyas 2002) The aim of this study is to calculate the A-constant for the optical coherence biometry. Method: Fourty eyes of 40 patients were implanted with Centerflex-IOL after routine phakoemulsification. Preoperative evaluation included the axial length, K-readings of the cornea and the anterior chamber depth. An objective and subjective refraction was done 8 weeks after cataract surgery and entered into the database of the IOL-Master. A new A-constant was calculated using IOL-Master TM integrated software. Results: The optical coherence biometry A-constant for Centerflex calculated was 118.6. Conclusions: We currently recommend an A-constant of 118.6 for Centerflex-IOL when optical coherence biometry is used for IOL calculation. A higher number of eyes examined might be needed to further increase the precision of the A-constant.
