Abstract
Examination about the Incidence of Conjunctival Carcinoma in Atopic Keratoconjunctivitis Engelhardt S.1, Reinhard T.2, Schilgen G.1, Kallen C. J.1, Böcking A.3, Sundmacher R.1
Purpose: The incidence of conjunctival carcinoma is about 1.2 diseases per annum per million persons in Germany. In nearly half of the patients with atopic dermatitis chronical inflammation of eye-lids, conjunctiva and cornea is described. Because chronical inflammation is a predisposition for the development of cell dysplasia and malignoma, a correlation of neoplastic developments with atopic keratoconjunctivits is suspected. Since October 2000 all patients with atopic keratoconjunctivitis who consulted our clinic were examined cytologically and cytometrically. In 8 cases conjunctival carcinoma was diagnosed. |
