Abstract
Do Cell Culture Media Supplements Influence the Survival of Retinal Ganglion Cells? Knop C. O.1, Li Y.2, Vorwerk C. K.1, Nickells R. W.2
Purpose: Survival and regeneration of retinal ganglion cells after different damaging stimuli depend on a variety of growth factors and supplements. Several studies showed that a cocktail of growth factors and agents is needed for optimal conditions. Various ocular cell types produce theses factors, often in response to some traumatic damage. In this study we used a mixture of different molecules and factors which are known to enhance growth and regeneration in vitro to show the same effect in vivo. Some commercially available supplements were tested in a CB6F1 mouse model of optic nerve crush. |
