Mechanisms of Apoptisis in Glaucoma Damage

Summary: Within the recent years the understanding of retinal degenerative and regenerative diseases has changed dramatically. With the new definition of glaucomatous optic neuropathy as a neurodegenerative disease new experimental strategies of potential therapeutic interventions are under development. In this review the current and future research goals and strategies will be covered. Furthermore the clinical relevance of such experimental data in our current treatment strategies will be critical discussed.
