Systemic Risk Factors in Normal Tension Glaucoma

Purpose: To evaluate systemic and local cardiovascular risk factors and anatomical and physiological state of visual sense organ in patients with diagnosed normal tension glaucoma.
Method: Evaluation of 33 eyes, 23 patients (women) at the age of 25 - 70 (average age 58 years old) with normal tension glaucoma. Cardiology: (blood pressure-BP, echocardiography, electrocardiography, ECG) and vascular (doppler ultrasonography of carotid and vertebral arteries) examinations were performed. Full ophthalmological examination was completed with photographic documentation of disc and nerv fiber layer morphology (non-red light photo). Results of static perymetry, PVEP, MERG and CCT (central corneal thickness) measured by specularmicroscopy), RTA (retinal thickness analyzer) were also evaluated.
Results: Patients physical examination indicated systemic arterial hypotension (systole <115 mmHg). 13 patients (56,5%) in 5 cases induced by pharmacotherapy (primarly-systemic arterial hypertension), angina pectoris 12 patients (52%), vasospasm 12 patients (52%) heart rate disturbances (atrial fibrillation) 9 patients (39%), after cardiostymulator implantation 3 patients (13%), systemic arterial hypert
