Purpose: The Retinal-Vessel-Analyzer (RVA) offers the unique opportunity of non-invasive online measurements of retinal vessel diameters. In the course of retinal vein occlusion we know a complete restitution as well as severe complications up to blindness and loss of the eye. The knowledge of the regulation capacity of the feeding arterioles might provide additional cognition about the prognosis of this disease. Method: In so far 10 patients with unilateral retinal branch vein occlusion aged 62.6±7.6 years continuous measurement of retinal arterioles over a period of 9 minutes was performed by means of RVA. After a 3-min baseline measurement isometric exercise provoked a rise in blood pressure. During the following three minutes recovery was recorded. Blood pressure and heart rate were documented simultaneously throughout the experiment. Results: All patients showed a significant rise in blood pressure of 14.4±9.0 mmHg (MAP, p<0.001) during exercise. The eyes with branch vein occlusion showed an initial dilatation of retinal arterioles of 1.5% approximately followed by a vasoconstriction in contrast to the not affected eyes with a vasoconstriction of 1% approximately without initial vasodilatation. Conclusions: Eyes with branch vein occlusion showed a different myogenic response to changes in blood pressure in comparison with not affected partner eye. There was
