Intra-individual Comparison of Posterior Capsule Opacification Rates of Highly Refractive IOLs with Different Material or Design after 2 Years

Purpose: Longterm comparison of IOLs with different design or material concerning the incidence of posterior capsule opacification (PCO).
Method: In this randomized multicenter study, a high refractive silicone lens with sharp edge design (Pharmacia CeeOn Edge 911A) was compared intraindividually either with a high refractive silicone lens without sharp edge design (Allergan Phakoflex SI40NB) or with a hydrophobic acrylic lens with sharp edge design (Alcon MA60BM). 288 patients have been enrolled, 195 patients have been available for the 2-year follow up. PCO development was evaluated using the EPCO system by an independent investigator.
Results: Only eye pairs with evaluable fotos and with a rhexis overlapping the lens optic in both eyes were analyzed (n=4
