Abstract
In vivo-representation of Corneal Histopathological Structures with the Rostock-confocal-laser-scanning-microscope after Epidemic Keratoconjunctivitis Knappe S., Stave J., Guthoff R.
Purpose: The epidemic keratoconjunctivitis (EKC) is a highly contagious infection caused by adenovirus type 8, 19, 37. The genesis of subepithelial nummular infiltrates can lead to an permanent disturbance of vision. These infiltrates consist histopathologically of an accumulation of cells, like lymphocytes, histiocytes and fibroblasts. So far the cause of the persistence of the nummular infiltrates is not exactly known. The Rostocker-confocal-laser-scanning-mikroskop (KFM) allows us to recognize corneal structures in vivo and localize its depth exactly. The main interest of our work is to examine the cornea of a female patient during and after the acute phase of an epidemic keratoconjunctivitis with the KFM with special consideration of illness-specific changes. |
