Purpose: After refractive surgery with the excimer laser like LASIK (Laser in situ keratomileus) or PRK (photorefractive keratektomy) no changings in the central area of the cornea are present after finishing the recovering process. The purpuse of this study was to visualize changings of the interface as well as of the anterior stroma postoperatively with the "Rostocker-Laser-Scanning-Microscope". Method: Using the Heidelberg Retina Tomograph II (HRT II) in combination with the "Rostocker cornea modul" the imaging level of the system can be focussed from the retina to the anterior segment with an increasing resolution. Without intervening in the hard- and software of the equipment, images of the cornea with an enlargement to approximatelly 600 could be achieved. The system works with a contact system. Patients from one to four years after refractive surgery have been examined with the "Rostocker-Laser-Scanning-Microscope". Results: Highly reflective structures in the interface, decreasing with time, can be seen in patients after LASIK with normal structure of the epithelium and anterior stroma. After PRK hyperreflective areals can be visualized on the level of the anterior stroma as well decreasing with time. The reinnervation of the subepithelial nerve plexus can be shown. Conclusions: Changings of the stroma after refractive surgery, that seem decreasing with ti
