Purpose: Recurrent corneal erosions can be treated with transepithelial phototherapeutic keratectomy (t-PTK). For quicker postoperative recovery, the combination with autologous serum eye drops might be advantageous. Method: 25 eyes with recurrent corneal erosions were treated with t-PTK with the Schwind Keratom excimer laser. Routine therapy consisted of 2x 40 pulses (ca. 20mm ablation). Postoperatively 6x/day autologous serum eye drops were administered for 6 weeks. Results: 20 of 25 patients (80 %) did not develop any further erosions after the treatment. 5 patients had one further erosion which was treatable with autologous serum eye drops only without additional excimer laser treatment. Conclusions: T-PTK and additional autologous serum eye drops is a safe and effective combination for treatment of recurrent corneal erosions.
