Abstract
Adiponectin A New Candidate Antigen in Graves Ophthalmopathy (GO)? Plicht M.1, Morgenthaler N.3, Steuhl K. P.1, Quadbeck B.2, Mann K.2, Esser J.1, Eckstein A.1
Purpose: Adiponectin is a novel adipose tissue-specific protein. Synthesis and secretion of adiponectin is increased by the activation of the nuclear receptor PPARgamma. Recently a male type-2 diabetic, treated with the PPARgamma agonist Pioglitazone, experienced exacerbation of his GO. So we framed the hypothesis, that marked and lid swelling and proptosis, which are mainly caused by increased orbital adipose tissue, might be accompanied by increased adiponectin levels in GO. |
