Abstract
Degeneration and Regeneration of Normal Conjunctiva - The Role of Apoptosis-associated Genes Tost F.1, Fabian M.1, Giebel J.2
Purpose: The balance between cell proliferation and apoptosis is essential to homostasis of the conjunctiva. Apoptosis-associated genes (Bcl-2, Bax, Bad, Caspases) are a causal relationship. Changes of gene expression could be a reason for acut and chronic external diseases through the induction of conjunctival metaplasia. On the other side, the changes of conjunctival epithelium barriere are connected to age-related processes, e.g. loss of goblet cells. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the physiological expression pattern of apoptosis related genes in the conjunctiva. |
