Short-term lectureships at university eye clinics in Africa, Asia and Latin America

The Deutsche Ophthalmologische Gesellschaft (DOG) will fund 3 short-term lectureships, at university eye clinics in Africa, Asia and Latin America.German professors are eligible to receive 3.000 Euros to present lectures, hold seminars, offer practical training, and engage in joint clinical activity and surgery.

As a general rule, the duration of the lectureship is 2 weeks.

Financial support is provided to cover the following expenses:

  1. Flight and transportation expenses (including those within the host country)
  2. Accommodations
  3. Per diem expenses (meals and incidentals)
  4. Visa fees
  5. Education–related expenses for teaching local doctors and students (e.g. purchase of books, CDs, DVDs)
  6. Expenses related to the development of screening and prevention projects (e.g. glaucoma prevention) and the training of  local doctors, medical students, nurses, paramedics, etc. (e.g. books, PC; slide projector)
  7. Clinical equipment (e.g. Ophthalmoscope, lenses, magnifying eye glasses etc.)

Lecturers are asked to send an activity report to the Deutsche Ophthalmologische Gesellschaft no later than three months after the completion of the visit.

Lecturers are expected to pay all expenses up front. They should then submit corresponding documents and invoices to the DOG Geschäftsstelle for reimbursement. Advance payments may be provided upon request.

All funded equipment and materials that do not remain in the host country  will be considered the property of the DOG. Lecturers must send all such items  to the Head of International Ophthalmology at the end of the lectureship period.
