Research funding for innovative scientific projects in ophthalmology

Donor:

Description: 
Research funding for innovative scientific projects in ophthalmology

Purpose:
Promotion of basic research, clinical research and clinical studies.

Value: 
Two research projects will be supported at  20.000 Euro a piece.

Terms:
Awards are delivered in two instalments of 10.000 Euro. The first instalment will be forwarded directly upon project approval. The second instalment will be forwarded upon examination and acceptance of the first project report. The report must clearly demonstrate that the initial aims of the project proposal have been met with the allocated funds. For details concerning reporting requirements, please see below.

Application: 
Applicants must have graduated from an accredited, university-level medical school. The application must be in accordance with the guidelines of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation). A committee from the DOG will evaluate the applications.

Only one submission per applicant is possible. However, multiple applications from the same clinic/practice/research group are permitted.

  1. A letter of recommendation from a university professor on the qualifications of the applicant and the merit of the proposed project
  2. A letter of consent from the institution where the research project will be conducted
  3. A brief description of the project (e.g. study design, patients, planned number of cases)
  4. A literature review including existing knowledge of the subject under study and the published results of related studies in the relevant field(s)
  5. A proposed timeline
  6. A list and description of funding (already obtained)
  7. The applicants’ CVs, including a list of publications


Deadline: 
The last day to submit applications is May 15, 2006.

Award:
Awards will be announced at the annual DOG congress.

Funding Duration: 
As a general rule, the funds will be awarded for projects with a two year duration.

Reporting: 
Award recipients are asked to deliver a regular progress report (at least once per year) of the results of their projects. These reports should be submitted to the Recording Secretary of the Geschäftsstelle der DOG. The Recording Secretary may also ask the project leaders to present their report to interested DOG members during a session of the DOG congress.

Period:
Research funding will be made available on an annual basis. The Deutsche Ophthalmologische Gesellschaft reserves the right to condition this support on the society’s financial status.

Funding for research in Tropical Ophthalmology

Description: 
Funding for research in Tropical Ophthalmology

Purpose: 
To provide funding for innovative research in the field of Tropical Ophthalmology. Preference will be given to projects conducted in developing countries in conjunction with a local research partner.

Value: 
5.000 Euro max.

Application: 
Applicants must have graduated from an accredited, university-level medical school. The application must be in accordance with the guidelines of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation). A committee from the DOG will evaluate the applications.

Funding for ophthalmologists from developing countries

Funding for ophthalmologists from developing countries

Purpose: 
To provide project-related funding for ophthalmologists from the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America intending to conduct research in Germany.

Value: 
Three research projects shall be funded with Euro 30.000 a piece.

Terms:
Awards are delivered in two instalments of 15.000 Euro. The first instalment will be forwarded directly upon project approval. The second instalment will be forwarded upon examination and acceptance of the first project report. Purpose: 
Supplemental funding to provide additional funds for projects which have received only partial funding from other sources

Value: 
Funds will allocated up to an amount of 25.000 Euro per year. Exact amount will be determined based on the individual project requirements.
