105. DOG-Kongress in Berlin
Nachlese zum 105. Kongress der DOG
Ansprache von Dr. Charles P.Wilkinson (Baltimore, Maryland, USA)
Präsident der American Academy of Ophthalmology
Now I am very pleased and very honoured to be here representing the American Academy of Ophthalmology or the AAO at the celebration of this anniversary of the German Ophthalmological Society or the DOG. As the last person on this list of guest speakers it is very hard to add anything whatsoever that is novel. So let me begin by saying: Mr. President congratulations and Happy Birthday to the DOG! The German ophthalmology has had a profound influence upon ophthalmology around the world and the United States is no exception in this regard. I can assure you that the names von Graefe, Helmholtz, Leber, all the way up to Custodis, Meyer-Schwickerath – these legendary names are known to virtually every resident who has ever trained in America. Our societies share a goal of promoting science and research in ophthalmology in an effort to prevent and reduce causes of avoidable blindness. And we pledge to you, our society and organisation to the DOG, to the ICO in attempting to achieve this goal - if not hopefully before the year 2020. Let me close by saying first of all that we look forward to returning to Berlin in 2010, where we will be a part of the WOC 2010 in joining you here again and now I close by saying I hope the DOG and the AAO can expand our efforts of collaboration for at least 150 more years. Thank you very much for the opportunity to be here. |
