Electronic Recordings of Occlusion in Amblyopia - First Experiences in Germany
Chopovska Y., Cirina L., Zubcov A., Fronius M.
Purpose: About one third of all amblyopes do not reach reading acuity in spite of occlusion therapy. One of the reasons is a lack of therapy compliance, which could not be quantified in the past. Experience with new devices (Occlusion Dose Monitors, ODM) for electronic recording of occlusion was recently reported (Simonsz et al. 1999). Taking part in the international study Electronic Recording of Patching for Amblyopia Group (EPRAG), as the first centre in Germany, we have the opportunity to work with the new technology. In order to test the features of the ODMs we investigated the following questions: How reliable are the recordings of the ODMs compared to diaries? Is it possible to recognise whether the measurements took place on the eye or on other parts of the body? To what extent might the surrounding temperature be a limitation for the recordings?
